You have to watch while you're typing. At the bottom of the box you type in there is a little message that tells you when it's saving. It'll save periodically. If it says error, nothing is saved and when you go to publish it you get the "poof". If it says it was saved, go into edit blogs and it will be in there. Just open it and try to publish it again.
